Why Train?

Why Train? We believe every person is different having their own strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, but all of us have at least one thing in common-we all want to feel good. We feel the core to feeling good is having a strong mind and body. Even if a person is a great fighter many times they are not balanced mentally and often may bring physical or emotional harm to themselves, as well as harming others. A true martial artist is not only a good fighter- they are also a complete person that uses his/her strength and abilities as a tool to develop a higher understanding of themselves. This enables the martial artist to think and react to every day challenges with a higher degree of awareness and confidence that will bring more positive results. With a healthy mind and body, and every other part of their lives going in the right direction (ie. relationships, career, etc.) , a person can then truly feel good. Feeling good has its opposite which is feeling bad. According to the Chinese Yin-Yang theory of opposites for there to be pleasure there must be pain. Then there is good or bad pleasure and good or bad pain. Bad pleasure can be always taking the fun or easy way (ie. lack of good exercise, bad habits, fast foods, couch potato, participating in activities that damage the body). The result of bad pleasure is bad pain (ie. damaged joints, weak muscles, poor health). Good pain is the discomfort of engaging in activities that build the mind and body (ie. physical discomfort, overcoming laziness, delaying having fun, defeating mental depression). The result of good pain is good pleasure--an energized, healthy mind and body that will allow more enjoyment in the long run.

Bad Pleasure ---------------> Bad Pain

Good Pain ---------------> Good Pleasure

Good pain is not the result of hard physical effort, but of any effort that builds more than it takes. Training in the 8 Martial Arts using the 5-Element System is an advanced method where the student can achieve maximum results correlated to the time and effort put in. This return from the time and energy invested, is a major motivating factor that can keep the students' interest through any challenge.
